Аннотация: Учебное пособие предлагает студентам теоретический и практический материал по фоностилистике английского языка. В описательной части определяются основные понятия дисциплины (стиль, фонетическая норма); устанавливается взаимосвязь между языковыми явлениями и экстралингвистическими факторами; рассматриваются вопросы классификации функциональных стилей с точки зрения типологии речи; дается систематизированное описание, характеристика и углубленный анализ просодических особенностей информационного, официально-делового, публицистического, научного и разговорного стилей речи. Весь теоретический материал подкрепляется практическими заданиями и тренировочными упражнениями, направленными на совершенствование навыков правильного английского произношения применительно к различным социально-бытовым ситуациям. В практической части отрабатывается имитация и воспроизведение английских текстов и диалогов разной тематической и стилистической наполненности при сохранении оригинального темпа, ритма и интонационных контуров, а также дается подборка стихов британских и американских поэтов с фонетической транскрипцией, предназначенная для заучивания, что позволяет студентам освоить навыки риторики и уметь убедительно выступать перед аудиторией.

Аннотация: The proceedings comprise the materials presented at the XXII Nate-Russia International Conference «The Evolving Role of the Modern Language Teacher», which was held within the frames of the National Association of Teachers of English (NATE) at the Smolensk University for the Humanities on 21–23 April 2016. The conference was arranged thanks to the support of the National Association of Teachers of English (NATE), the Smolensk University for the Humanities, the Smolensk Association of Teachers of English (ATES) and the US Embassy in Moscow. The proceedings embrace the following sections: assessment and testing, autonomous learning, best practices in teaching young learners, information technologies in FL teaching, intercultural communication, integrating basic and additional language programs, research in language theories and practices, teacher development as well as innovative approaches, methods and techniques in ELT. The author’s vision of the problem as well as the originality of style are preserved. The aterials may be of interest to researchers and teachers who work with the English language.

Аннотация: The object of the attention is cognition in its different forms (special attitude is paid to spiritual one), the relation between metaphysics, policy and morality. The present-day global challenges, the profound causes of the crisis can be found in the destruction of the basic principles of morality, which must have ontological and metaphysical foundations. Extensively involving vast culturological, historical, and philosophical materials, the author tends to demonstrate and prove the necessity of transcendental foundations for morality, which were discovered already in the «Axial Age» and which almost have been lost by modern man and society. The author examines the problem of correlation between policy and morality, different variants of it (from machiavellism - «the aim justifies any means» up to pacifistic - «nonresistance to evil by force»). Investigates the principles of a humanistic policy («the virtue aim can be achieved only by virtue methods») and its collisions on an example of I. Il\'in, L. Tolstoy, F. Dostoevsky, other thinkers’ creativity. The course is taught within the specialization «History» of International relations». It also addresses to graduate and postgraduate students in the humanities and everyone interested in understanding specificity of science, spiritual cognition and foundation of humanistic policy.

Аннотация: The book is the first part of the monograph «Classification of countable models of complete theories» consisting of two parts. In the monograph, a classification of countable models of complete theories with respect to two basic characteristics (Rudin-Keisler preorders and distribution functions for numbers of limit models) is presented and applied to the most important classes of countable theories such as the class of Ehrenfeucht theories (i. e., complete first-order theories with finitely many but more than one pairwise non-isomorphic countable models), the class of small theories (i. e., complete first-order theories with countably many types), and the class of countable first-order theories with continuum many types. For realizations of basic characteristics of countable complete theories, syntactic generic constructions, generalizing the Jonsson-Fraïssé construction and the Hrushovski construction, are presented. Using these constructions a solution of the Goncharov-Millar problem (on the existence of Ehrenfeucht theories with countable models which are not almost homogeneous) is described. Modifying the Hrushovski-Herwig generic construction, a solution of the Lachlan problem on the existence of stable Ehrenfeucht theories is shown. In the first part, a characterization of Ehrenfeuchtness, properties of Ehrenfeucht theories, generic constructions, and algebras for distributions of binary semi-isolating formulas of a complete theory are considered. The book is intended for specialists interested in Mathematical Logic.

Аннотация: Standard methods of drug treatment are aimed at restoring adirect connection between the brain and the muscles of the limbs. However, there is not a single drug that is able to restore feedback. In this case, the official medicine refers to physiotherapeutic methods of treatment and physiotherapy exercises, which patients receive in short courses, practically unable to use them at home, with the exception of active, but more often passive, exercises that require outside help. This type of treatment should be available to patients every day, is low in production, simple and easy to use, which plays a key role in the adaptation of children with disabilities and allows them to become full members of society and take an active part in all aspects of social life. The solution of this problem in many respects becomes possible due to the innovative direction of bioengineering — the design and implementation of the exoskeleton of the upper limb.

Аннотация: The Return of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of 13 Sherlock Holmes stories, originally published in 1903-1904, by Arthur Conan Doyle. This was the ﬁrst Holmes collection since 1893, when Holmes had «died» in The Final Problem. Having published The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1901-1902 (although setting it before Holmes’ death) Doyle came under intense pressure to revive his famous character. The ﬁrst story is set in 1894 and has Holmes returning in London and explaining the period from 1891-94, a period called «The Great Hiatus» by Sherlockian enthusiasts. Also of note is Watson’s statement in the last story of the cycle that Holmes has retired, and forbids him to publish any more stories.
